Why DeVry?
Before I graduated from high school, I started looking at a bunch of schools. DeVry was the one that really caught my eye because of the small class sizes. I’m also a very hand-on type of person and I just couldn’t see myself in some enormous college hall with hundreds of students listening to a professor lecture. That’s just not my style and I don’t think it would have worked for me.
When picking a school the first thing is to figure out what you expect from the school and your college experience. Some of my friends went for big schools just on the basis of the school’s name, one that’s well known. I chose DeVry even though it isn’t a big name because it offers a quality education geared to my needs.
At DeVry I really feel the school provides great service to its students. They keep up with you and what you’re doing. They make sure you get what you need to be successful in the program. The faculty is great. They help you in any way they can and you never get a runaround when you need help. The teachers are really there for you. It’s nice to have that access.
I’m going for my BSBA at DeVry with an accounting major. In my senior year of high school I took an economics class and really did well. So I liked accounting and knew what my major would be before I came to DeVry. I expect to be graduating in 2007, and go on for my CPA after that.
Getting involved in campus life.
I commute to DeVry from my parents’ house here in Orlando but that hasn’t kept me from being a part of campus life. Since coming here I’ve become very active. I’m a soccer nut, a student ambassador, a member of Women In Technology and I have a job on campus. DeVry Career Services hooked me up with an accounting internship, but unfortunately I had too much on my plate right now and had to drop the internship.
The best part: The feeling of success!
Outside of the academic knowledge I’ve received, I think the biggest thing I’ve gained since coming to DeVry is a major boost in my confidence level. Everyone is very supportive, and I feel very successful. In terms of that, I have to rate DeVry as a 10 on a scale of 1 to 5.
